The Association and its Domicile
The Artists’ Association Gelsenkirchen has been a non-profit, multi-discipline association since its foundation in 1950 and is honored every five years with a big exhibition in the headquarters of the local mutual savings bank.
The Association currently has more than 40 members: painters, graphic artists, photographers, sculptors, writers, musicians and dancers. In its gallery, the Domicile, located in Gelsenkirchen-Ückendorf, Bergmannstraße 53, there are ongoing exhibitions of the artwork of its own members as well as guests, (opening hours: every Saturday from 2 – 5 o’clock).
Exhibitions over the last few years (just a section)
In 2013 the Association presented a show – in cooperation with the local co-operative bank – titled “on the other side of the Kanal” the artists’ perception of the seeming border within the city.
In that same year there was another artists’ symposium in Moscenicka Draga, Croatia, which was attended by several artists. In 2014 there was a big show of our Association together with its international partners in the premises of the “Kunstmuseum Gelsenkirchen”. That was an excellent opportunity for the Association to show its international activities.
In 2015 the Association celebrated the tenth anniversary of settling down in its current domicile with a retrospective of its previous exhibitions.
In 2016 there was a big exposition of our members in the premises of the Law Academy in Recklinghausen.
The Association started a new series of exhibitions focused on “Elementary forces” which opened with the element water titled “Aqua H2O”. All these exhibitions were well appreciated and covered by the media.
